NRL clubs are set to launch live streaming video on their NRL website this week to help fans watch games live for the very first time.
With the NRL season about to kick off, clubs are hoping to give fans a chance to watch the NRL on the go and with a simple click, fans will be able to stream the games live to a new, dedicated video stream that will be available to fans for up to two weeks.
“We have the first live streams for NRL games in a long time and this is another step in our commitment to ensure that fans get to watch their NRL games online and on mobile devices,” said NRL chief executive Dave Smith.
“I can tell you this is going to be a huge win for fans across the country.”
As well as the live streams, NRL clubs will also be launching the NRL app, which will allow fans to watch live games on the app without having to log in.
“As the game’s played, the game can’t wait to see how many people watch on mobile,” Smith said.
“So when fans log in, they will see the games on their mobile devices and also the app and that will provide the best opportunity to catch up on the game.”
“We want the NRL to be available in a variety of devices, and that’s where this app comes in,” he said.
Smith said that when the NRL launched its new NRL app last year, fans were able to watch games on any of the devices they wanted, but the app only provided access to the live stream and video content.
“The apps are now being updated to offer a variety [of devices] to offer access to all of the live content that is available to us on the mobile platforms,” he explained.
“And with this app, we’ve been able to provide access to NRL games for a variety number of platforms, from the mobile devices, to desktop, to TVs and tablets.”NRL teams are also set to roll out a number of NRL apps to fans in the coming months, including the NRL App, the NRL TV app, the TV App for mobile and the NRL mobile app.
Fans can get the latest NRL games at the NRL Store, with games currently available for purchase on the NRL website, and on the App store.
“Our goal is to make it easy for fans to stream live games and enjoy it in a seamless way,” Smith explained.
The NRL clubs’ launch of the NRL Live Streams app comes just a month after the AFL announced that the AFL will be offering live streaming of games for free.
“While the AFL is still in the process of developing its own live streaming app, its been widely accepted that live streaming will be a big part of the game and we are committed to making it as easy as possible for fans of the AFL to get their live game fix,” Smith noted.
